Welcome to our blog and to our school in the heart of Munich!

Standing in the centre of Munich, on Marienplatz in front of the wonderful neo-Gothic New Town Hall with the famous Glockenspiel chiming every morning at 11 o’clock, you will discover that people from all over the world gather here. You will hear a medley of all world languages and see visitors from all continents. This is home to us ‘inlinguans’!

A notable number of these visitors are learning German at inlingua Munich with the aim of settling here (statistics show that nearly half of language teaching in Munich at the turn of the century was German for foreigners). Other visitors are on a sightseeing tour. History here goes way back – what is now the city centre was a settlement at about 2000 B.C., the end of the Neolithic Period.

What did the human language sound like then? The development of language over thousands of years has been influenced by many factors. To this day, Munich has retained its own dialect, slightly differing from other Bavarian dialects, parallel to standard German. The most famous representatives of this dialect are the Munich comedians Karl Valentin and Liesl Karlstadt, who stand today in bronze on the food market, Viktualienmarkt.

Our inlingua school in Munich was founded in 1897 and has been run as a family company ever since. Even then, the school had a good reputation in Munich, not only thanks to the native-speaking teachers. Members of the Bavarian royal house studied languages such as Hungarian here.

We would, of course, be happy to welcome you as a student at our school and guarantee you effective tuition with teachers who are experienced native-speakers.
